About the Author
Justin O Brien, also known as Swami Jaidev Bharati, is a Renaissance man: philosopher, theologian, yoga practitioner, teacher, writer, wellness expert, speaker, spiritual guide, and long-time explorer in human consciousness. Known internationally for his programs in spiritual development, wellness, and scholarship, his insights translate across East and West, self-care skills and human development, but always with an emphasis on personal growth. Chief consultant and designer for world conferences on the future of humanity in Tokyo, Kathmandu, New Delhi, Chicago, and New York, he has lectured across the globe, bringing joy and keen insights to many. He served as Professor of Theology at Loyola University Chicago, Lecturer at the New School for Social Research in New York, and Senior Research Fellow in Holistic Medicine at the University of London. He was Director of Education at the Marylebone Health Centre, London, as well as faculty and Director of Education at the Himalayan International Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy of USA. He is now Adjunct Professor in the Masters of Liberal Studies Department of the University of Minnesota and preceptor of the Institute of the Himalayan Tradition in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He has studied theology under the acclaimed theologians Schillebeeckx, Schoonenberg, and Cooke, holding a Doctoraat in the Philosophy of Consciousness and a Doctoraal in Theology from Nijmegen University in the Netherlands. He is also certified in Neurolinguistic Programming and Ericksonian Hypnosis. O Briens life took a giant step into personal growth when he became a disciple of the great yogi, Swami Rama of the Himalayas. He lived, worked, and studied with the saint for twenty-four years, in the States, India, and Nepal. He took spiritual vows in Saint Paul in 1989 and vows of renunciation on the banks of the Ganges River in Rishikesh, India in 1999. His other books include: Walking with a Himalayan Master: An Americans Odyssey, A Meeting of Mystic Paths: Christianity and Yoga, The Wellness Tree: The Dynamic Program for Creating Optimal Wellness, Running and Breathing, and Mirrors for Men. He is also a contributing author to Western Spirituality, Spirituality for the Religious Educator, and Meditation in Christianity. Several of his books have won national awards, and some of his articles won the NCWA Journalism Award.
